Dental Bridges

Dental BridgesTaking care of your teeth is an important investment of both your time and your money. It is one that is absolutely vital, however, when it comes to living a healthy life. Teeth that are unhealthy and weak can lead to a lot of problems that could significantly impact your life in negative ways, and that’s no way to live. If you end up with dental issues that cause some of your teeth to be extracted, you should take the opportunity to invest in the best replacement teeth options out there. At East Lake Advancing Dentistry, we are happy to offer the option of dental bridges to our patients who are in need of replacement teeth to maintain their quality of life.

What is a dental bridge?

A dental bridge is a non-removable (fixed) dental tool that is inserted after a tooth has been lost or extracted. It is also one of the most popular and effective forms of tooth replacement currently available. Dental bridges look like your natural teeth, for one thing, and they also don’t require the use of implants. Instead, they fit over what are known as “anchor” teeth, and work like your natural teeth do. They work to ensure that your smile looks great and still functions the way that it should, in other words.

What is the best kind of dental bridge?

There are a variety of different bridge options, and when you come in for treatment or an evaluation with us at East Lake Advancing Dentistry, we will sit down and discuss the best kind for your specific needs. One of the most commonly used and popular kind of bridge out there is the “traditional bridge”. This is a bridge that has porcelain replacement teeth attached to a metal framework to keep everything strong and durable. This bridge can be matched to your existing teeth to ensure a natural fit, and is installed by attaching to two anchor teeth (each outfitted with a crown). Traditional bridges are incredibly long lasting and can work well for years as long as you take care of them. They may eventually need to be replaced, however, as time takes its toll on them.

How long will it take to install a dental bridge?

You will usually need to visit us at least twice to have a dental bridge installed. The process begins by preparing the anchor teeth for the crown. A mold of your teeth is then made. This will be used by a laboratory to create a highly accurate set of crowns for your teeth as well as the replacement tooth. The next visit is when the dental bridge will actually be placed in your mouth. This is a careful process that involves adjustment and patience to get the perfect fit.
